There are many different issues and challenges that survivors struggle with. You may have hopes and plans for a survivor that are reasonable, based on your experience, but not necessarily reasonable for them.
If you feel like there are specific changes that person needs to make, it’s usually better to pray about those changes instead of saying, “You really ought to…..” or “Why don’t you do…..” But remember that we are not trying to control others by praying for them. So you can pray something like this: “Please help them learn how to set wise boundaries, if that’s what’s best for them at this point.”
When you pray for someone, be careful not to pray that they will meet your expectations. Instead, pray that they will grow in grace. Pray that they will have all that they need to thrive, and that they will be assured of God’s steadfast love and presence.
