January 2026, Bearing Witness #3 –
It’s also important to bear witness to ourselves, to remind ourselves, about what God has brought us through. What has God done for you? What challenges or obstacles have you overcome, with the Lord’s help? What is there that makes your eyes fill with tears and your heart with deep gratitude? When you know for sure how God has helped you, you can speak with conviction to others and say that God can help them.
I can’t speak for you, but for me I can say that I tend to forget some past struggles and victories unless I work to remember them. When I look back, though—when I consider my life 10, 20, 30, 40 years ago and compare it to my freedom now—I’m reminded that God, who brought me this far, does not change. I’m encouraged to know that God’s loving, limitless power is still at work in my life. And I’m empowered to believe on behalf of others.
Sure, I have a long way to go; but “the Lord has brought me from a mighty long way,” as the old gospel song says. When I bear witness to that, when I make an effort to remember how I’ve grown and been delivered, I realize that nothing is too hard for God. True for me, true for you. Please email me any time: Mary.Brown@SilenceBrokenNow.org. I’m pulling for you.
