MEET US WHERE WE ARE
I know these are busy days and stressful times for a lot of people, and it’s easy to feel overwhelmed (I find that I need to spend extra time in prayer). So just file this away in your mind, and maybe ask God to help you remember: For survivors, the holidays are often extra hard; we may need extra support and understanding.
This could be as simple as not asking questions like “Are you ready for the holidays?” or “Doing anything special for Christmas?” Just don’t ask. Prepare yourself with other greetings that are not questions. “I’m glad to see you,” with a sincere smile, is always nice. Talk about pleasant things that aren’t personal; if you’re at church, for instance, you could talk about the Christmas program or point out some unusual decorations. Interact on a level that shows you care but doesn’t require much of a response. And lift us in prayer, because God knows our needs. And yours, too.
