For faith leaders and other supporters of adult survivors of child sexual abuse

November 2025, Giving Thanks #4

Finally, learn to give God thanks for survivors. A lot of folks, survivors and other people too, are often high-need, irritating, or disagreeable. And yet all of those people who get on our nerves are people whom God loves. We can learn to respect others by praying for them and including them, for specific reasons, in our thanks. [“Dear God, I thank you for so-and-so because…..”]

This is not easy to do! It’s often a challenge to think of specific reasons to give thanks for certain people. But prayer time is the best time to think honestly about them, if our hearts are open to learning more about love. These will not be prayers to get people to do what we think they should do; they will be prayers to help us see others more as our Lord sees them.
