For faith leaders and other supporters of adult survivors of child sexual abuse

July, 2025 – Freedom, #3

As we support survivors in their healing process, let’s remember three elements: Faith. Time. Patience. We have probably preached and counseled people about the importance of faith, time, and patience, but are we willing to do what we’ve asked others to do?

It’s easy to feel irritated when survivors (and others) keep making the same mistakes, or don’t show much progress, or have trouble trusting God’s promises. Even if we don’t voice our frustration, it can contaminate our attitudes and hinder the work of love through us. Let’s consistently pray for ourselves as well as for others.

Please be aware that growth often happens more like a sunrise than like a light suddenly being turned on. You won’t know the precise time that a change occurs but at some point you’ll realize that something is different. Give glory to God, and keep helping survivors grow in freedom.
