As you walk with us on this long process of healing from child sexual abuse, please remember that everyone processes trauma differently.
Hopefully you would never hear about a survivor on the news who is thriving and apparently successful, and then say to one of us, “That person is doing fine. Why is it taking you so long?” If you would never say that, please try not to think it also.
Negative comparisons don’t help anyone and can seep into your attitude toward survivors. Please work on trusting that God is active in our lives, doing the slow and steady healing that will yield the best results for us. Faith cannot be in the efforts of any human being; we all must trust that God (who works through humans) is busy on survivors’ behalf. Your job, and ours, is to cooperate and try not to hinder God’s good work.
